Abstract: 

One of the main accomplishments of the Israeli government’s bombing and invasion of the Gaza Strip last winter was to inspire new vitality within leftist and peace groups in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for justice and liberation. This wave of activity has continued after the supposed ceasefire, with demonstrations and direct actions from New York to Los Angeles, Paris, Jaffa, and Tel Aviv.

Members of Adalah-NY: The Coalition For Justice In the Middle East were shocked at the unprecedented levels of hatred and racism on display at the "Salute to Israel Parade" on Sunday, June 1st in Manhattan. Adalah-NY organized one of a number of contingents of protesters that converged on 5th Avenue between 58th and 59th streets.

Protest 60 years of Nakba at the "Salute to Israel Parade"

On the 60th anniversary of the Nakba (the Palestinian Catastrophe) during which Zionist militias and the Israeli army drove around 800,000 Palestinians from their homes and destroyed around 500 Palestinian villages, the organizers of New York City's annual "Salute to Israel Day" parade plan to celebrate "sixty years of Israel’s independence," to "Advance Israel’s standing in the world community," and to "Remind Washington of the American Jewish community's organization, advocacy, and the strength of its vote."

Please Join Adalah-NY: The Coalition for Justice in the Middle East, for a presentation by Mohammad Jaradat and Eitan Bronstein on the Nakbah (Palestinian Catastrophe) in the process of acknowledging the past of human rights abuses in Palestine and moving forward to a just future.

Mohammad Jaradat is a Palestinian activist and co-founder of Badil Resource center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights, established in 1998. Badil takes a rights-based approach to the Palestinian refugee issue through research, advocacy and promoting the participation of refugees themselves.

Eitan Bronstein is a Jewish Israeli educator, activist, and Director of the Israeli organization, Zochrot. Founded in 2002, Zochrot seeks to educate Jewish Israelis about al-Nakbah, the Arabic word for "catastrophe" which refers to the 1948 displacement and dispossession of Palestinians.

Remembering Deir Yassin

Acknowledging the past; Imagining the future:
Palestinians and Israelis on 1948 and the Right of Return

Please Join Adalah-NY: The Coalition for Justice in the Middle East, in commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the massacre of Deir Yassin, on April 9th, 1948. Mohammad Jaradat of Badil and Eitan Bronstein of Zochrot will discuss the importance of Deir Yassin and the Nakbah in acknowledging past human rights abuses in Palestine as a necessary step for moving towards a just future . There will also be a performance by Al-Nujoom Dabkeh Troupe and a fashion show of Palestinian traditional dress. Food will be served.

The village of Bil'in's campaign of creative, nonviolent resistance to Israel's wall & settlements inspired the New York campaign to boycott settlement builders & NYC developers Lev Leviev & Shaya Boymelgreen. Leviev & Boymelgreen built settlement homes on Bil'in's land.

In Bil'in last week, according to the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz Daily, "More than 20 activists were wounded Friday as Israel Defense Forces troops fired rubber bullets and tear gas grenades at protesters marking three years of struggle against the West Bank separation fence in the West Bank town of Bil'in. At This Important Event
On September 4, 2007, after nearly three years of nonviolent resistance, the people of Bil'in won an appeal in the Israeli Supreme Court forcing the Israeli government to move the Apartheid Wall and return some of Bil'in's land.  During Bil'in's long campaign, on April 20, 2007, Puerto Rican Activist Tito Kayak scaled a 10 story Israeli surveillance tower & unfurled Palestinian Flag as Palestinian Film Journalist Emad Bornat documented the action.The two will speak and show the documentary "Bil'in Against the Wall".
