In its opening statement of 2012, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel declares that "it is time to take a stand to end all forms of complicity with Israeli academic and cultural institutions; they are key partners in the Israeli regime of occupation, colonialism and apartheid." In the context of what PACBI has called "a year to further intensify academic boycott," this roundtable brings together faculty and activists in Canada and the United States who are active in the global BDS movement.

Event

For years preceding the Arab Spring and the Occupy movement, Palestinian civil society has mobilized nonviolently for accountability in the name of liberation. The international Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement for Palestinian rights targets Israel's violations of international law, at the intersection of economic exploitation and political occupation. BDS challenges Israel's moral standing in the world through economic, cultural, and academic boycotts.

In June 2011, eleven indigenous and women of color scholars, activists, and artists visited occupied Palestine. In January 2012, a diverse group of lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and trans activists, academics, artists, and cultural workers from the US participated in a solidarity tour in Palestine. Both groups returned to publish statements about what they saw and learned, the connections they made between and among struggles, and their unequivocal support for the Palestinian civil society call for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it guarantees rights for Palestinian people. Members of these delegations will share their reflections on solidarity in the context of their recent trips, and offer suggestions for moving forward.

Join Adalah-NY to protest a performance by Batsheva, "Israel’s leading cultural ambassador".

In an exchange of letters with Adalah-NY, Batsheva's host, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, tried the excuse that Batsheva's performance won't "further a political agenda", but there's no denying it's part of the "Brand Israel" propaganda campaign.

In solidarity with the Palestinian call for cultural boycott, don't let Israel use dance to whitewash apartheid!
