Boycott SodaStream

Burst the SodaStream Bubble of Occupation
"Burst the Bubble of Occupation" from our SodaStream Sing-Along Protest at Target in Brooklyn NY, December 7, 2013

Web Action

In response to the Palestinian civil society call for boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS), and in the spirit of successful boycotts in other civil rights movements, from the grapes of California to the buses of Alabama to South Africa, we call on Zabar’s to stop selling SodaStream.

SodaStream is made in an Israeli settlement on Palestinian land, illegal under international law. Zabar's, take a stand as an important New York establishment. Be on the right side of history. Take SodaStream off the shelf.

Abstract:

This wasn’t the first objection I'd encountered to SodaStream, which turns a bottle of tap water into sparkling with three pumps of a recyclable carbon dioxide cartridge. SodaStream is an Israeli company with a manufacturing plant in occupied territory in the West Bank, a fact that enrages a politically informed, far-left segment of the liberal-yuppie demographic the product is marketed to. By bringing environmental foodie-ism into conflict with humanitarianism, SodaStream has turned the most inoffensive of soft drinks — Sustainable! Sugar-free!

Press Release

December 7, 2013, Brooklyn, NY—On Saturday, December 7, 100 activists from Adalah-NY, Jewish Voice for Peace-NY, Park Slope Food Coop Members for BDS, and elsewhere protested outside Target at Atlantic Terminal Mall in Brooklyn as part of the National Days of Action against SodaStream (photos). Between November 29—the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People as well as Black Friday—and December 10—Human Rights Day—organizations have been calling on Target to de-shelve SodaStream, which is produced in violation of international law in one of Israel’s largest Jewish-only settlements, Ma'ale Adumim. The activists are supporters of the Palestinian-led movement of boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) pressuring Israel until it complies with international law.
