Join us to hear two Palestinian organizers—Abir Kopty, based in the West Bank, and Amin Husain, based in New York City—talk about their work on the front lines of popular protest movements. Kopty is well known for being a key organizer of the Bab al-Shams protest village that garnered significant international attention earlier this year, a culminating moment of the weekly protests across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Husain has become known as a critical organizer in Occupy Wall Street and was involved in the organizing that took place prior to the actual occupation.
Abir Kopty is a feminist and political activist born in Nazareth and is now based in Ramallah. She is a former Nazareth City Councilwoman and today works as a media analyst and consultant, holding a Master's in Political Communication from the City University of London. Amin Husain began organizing with Occupy Wall Street in the months preceding the occupation and continues to play an active role. Most recently, he has helped create initiatives like Strike Debt and Rolling Jubilee and was active in Occupy Sandy. Amin is one of the editors of the occupy movement's theory and strategy print magazine TIDAL. He has a JD and LLM in Law but left law for art. Recently, he completed the Artist program at the Whitney Independent Study Program.
